Song in the Sumatran Highlands

Place: Kampar

Kampar is a kabupaten in the province of Riau, likely named for the Kampar River. According to one source, the area was formerly part of Luak Limopuluah Koto. It was separated in 1942 during the Japanese occupation. The majority of current residents identify as ethnically Minangkabau.
The Kampar River (Batang Kampar), originating in Limopuluah Koto and Sijunjuang regencies of West Sumatra, flows through the Kabupaten Kampar to the alluvial plains in the east.
