Song in the Sumatran Highlands

Song: "Lubuak Basuang Malereang Tabiang"

Alternative Title: This is the song more commonly known as "Malereang Tabiang."
Translation of Title: "Malereang Tabiang" means "to skirt the edge of the slope," which means metaphorically to sidestep around an issue by using metaphor. "Lubuak Basuang" in the title refers to a place affiliation, the regional capital of Agam, Lubuak Basuang.
Composer: This song has been attributed to multiple different people. The most frequent is Mak Sawir. He himself told me this was one of his compositions--a pop Minang song. It was clearly later adapted for saluang.
Type of song: Gembira.
Place affiliations: Source: Mardjani's List of Songs.
